Opera North offers young people the opportunity to learn more about the multi-faceted nature of an opera company through our work experience scheme. Applications are encouraged from students with a genuine interest in the arts who wish to learn about all aspects of the work of Opera North, as well as from students who have an interest in one particular administrative department or discipline.

Opera North offers six one-week work placements each year. The dates for available placements are shown in the work experience timetable. Please note that Opera North is unable to offer placements during the summer (June - August) as this falls within the Company holiday period.

Placements will include administration experience only and are designed to give a clear overview of the roles of the different departments of Opera North. Participants will observe and assist in all of the following departments, subject to the Company's timetable:

• Company Management

• Education

• Fundraising

• General Director's Office

• Library

• Marketing

• Planning

• Press and PR

• Reception

• Technical Office

In addition to gaining an insight into the daily functions of Opera North's administration departments, participants are also offered:

• A presentation on Opera North

• A tour of the Grand Theatre

• A tour of the Opera North offices

• The opportunity to observe Opera North rehearsals/performances, subject to timetable

• The opportunity to receive assessment relating to studies after completion of the placement

Each work experience participant will be asked to complete and return a work experience feedback form to evaluate their experience so Opera North can continue to improve the quality of our work experience programme.
