Aug '09 Opera North hits Bregenz

Home to the World’s largest floating stage with a backdrop of a stunning lake and mountainscape and host to a wealth of performance, music and theatre, the Bregenz festival is one of the most important summer events in Europe.

This summer, Opera North takes three operettas to form the operetta section of the festival, a key part of the festival and the only British opera company to perform there. The operas will show over three consecutive days in the Festival Theatre, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and offer light-hearted humour and quality music and performance during that time.

Paradise Moscow, Dmitry Shostakovich
A fun blockbusting musical about the search for a dream home in 1950’s Moscow.
Saturday 15 August, 11am, Festival Theatre

Of Thee I Sing, George Gershwin
A satirical operetta about love, presidential elections and corn muffins.
Sunday 16 August, 11am, Festival Theatre

Skin Deep, Armando Iannucci and David Sawer
An opera about the weird and wonderful world of cosmetic surgery.
Monday 17 August, 6.30pm, Festival Theatre

The festival runs from 22 July to 23 August headlining with Verdi’s Aida, which is being performed on the floating stage and is the same setting used in the most recent James Bond film, Goldeneye.
