Jan '10 Let Them Eat Cake!

Opera North celebrated the first birthday of its Howard Assembly Room in the venue. Taking centre stage was a Howard Assembly Room cake – a miniature 3-D version of the venue, complete with stained glass windows. The cake was cut by international opera singer Anne Sophie Duprels, who stars as Mimi in La Bohème, which opens on Friday (15 January). She was accompanied by Opera North’s General Director, Richard Mantle and General Manager of the Howard Assembly Room, Richard Ashton. The event showcased details of the Howard Assembly Room 2010 programme, an exclusive performance of Jacques Brel by mezzo-soprano, Jessica Walker, as well screened highlights from 2009’s season. Opera North’s 2010/2011 mainstage productions were also announced.
