Aug '09 Nice Ice Baby at Operawood
Friday 21 August sees Wonderwood in Holbeck Urban Village in Leeds transformed into ‘Operawood’, as Opera North offers a summer fete feel ahead of its Autumn season.
A singing ice cream van, stalls laden with games, quizzes and competitions, with a top prize of Sunday lunch and an overnight stay at Leeds' boutique hotel 42 The Calls, will highlight the mainstage and Howard Assembly Room programmes, as Opera North brings the magic of opera to the magic of the Wonderwood garden, home to a golden tree, giant pink rabbits and spontaneous sounds of birdsong and rhubarb.
Visitors to the event can claim their free ‘aria’ topping from the singing ice cream van, with an Opera North singer bursting out favourite tunes from Nessun Dorma to ‘O Sole Mio’, (just one Cornetto to most…)
Pick up an ice cream shaped voucher to redeem £10 off a ticket to any of Opera North’s Autumn season operas; Mozart’s comedy Cosi fan tutte, Massenet’s romantic Werther and Janacek’s The Adventures of Mr Brouček, plus a free ice cream in the interval.
The event promotes Opera North’s new season and the Howard Assembly Room, which focuses on The Idea of North as a theme, incorporating performances from instruments made from ice to a brand new family opera, Swanhunter.
The event runs Friday 21 August, 12-2pm and 5-7pm.
