Victoria Simmonds (Pinocchio)

It’s been nearly 3 years since I played Pinocchio, so I was slightly anxious before we started rehearsals, wondering if I could remember any of the ‘moves’, and if I would still have the energy at the end of the show to do the cartwheel!  Of course I needn’t have worried – we’ve got a great production team (most of whom have worked on the show many times) so it wasn’t long before it all came flooding back. I was surprised by how energised the show made me feel too. Even though it’s tiring being that ‘switched on’ for 3 hours, there’s nothing like playing a wooden boy for making you feel young!  I always end the show on a real high. Last night we had the dress rehearsal, which went really well. I can’t wait for the first night tomorrow. I’m missing my family a bit. I was lucky to have them up with me when I was rehearsing in August, but since my eldest, Emily, has just started school, I’ve had to leave them at home this week.  The flip side of that coin is that I get to lie in bed till whenever I like, and get a little ‘alone’ time for a change!  It was nice to be able to bring Emily to some of the rehearsals in the studio, as she has watched the show on DVD and loves it. She often starts singing slightly recomposed quotes from the show, which makes me giggle.  I can’t wait for her to come to the real thing.   To buy tickets and for more information, photos, video and reviews of The Adventures of Pinocchio please visit www.operanorth.co.uk/events/adventures-of-pinocchio/
