‘David and his partners have done such a fantastic job with the instrument itself. It really is something special. We will certainly be finding ways to use it with our older people & volunteers in the future.’
Susan (Caring Together in Woodhouse and Little London)

Little London is one of the most socially mixed areas of inner city Leeds. Residents of all ages made recordings of anything and everything that is important to life in the area. Opera North worked with Incidental to create a website and digital instrument that allows everyone to create musical compositions entirely from the sounds of Little London.

Incidental is an organisation specialising in cross-disciplinary creative work. Its work with Little London Community Primary School comprised of collecting sounds from the community and weaving them into an online installation.

The website created is a celebration of the cultures, history and diversity of the Little London area of Leeds. The site was launched on Saturday 19 April 2008 at the Little London Community Centre. Families attending the event were offered music workshops, demonstrations of how the instrument can be used and an evening of entertainment featuring performances by local artists and musicians involved in Echo Archive.
