Education & Engagement

Schools & Training: Opera in schools

Our work in schools aims to introduce students to opera in a creative, impactful and dynamic way. By running creative workshops with professional artists and by performing both main stage and small scale opera in primary and secondary schools, we aim to develop an awareness of opera as an exciting and relevant cultural resource.

Through our school workshops, we provide an environment where students can create original and high quality work under the guidance and encouragement of professional artists. This enables students to develop a variety of creative skills including performance, listening and composition, alongside vital universal skills, such as maintaining focus and concentration, group working and building confidence in the exchange of ideas.

Projects

Operations: Primary Schools

‘Operations’ is a series of creative workshops for primary schools which accompany a small-scale opera. The children involved are given the opportunity to explore the content of the opera and experiment with the art forms that combine to produce the final performance.

Opera 1: Secondary Schools

Opera 1 is a programme of creative workshops aimed at introducing opera to young people in secondary schools. Students work with a team of professional artists on a range of music, drama and design activities before attending a local performance, equipped with the new ideas and knowledge gained during the workshops.
