6-28 February 2009, Mon to Sat, 1pm-7.30pm
Details
The Howard Assembly Room is transformed into a work of art by one of the most renowned companies working in the field of light and interactivity in the UK today: United Visual Artists (UVA). Their newly commissioned installation 'Chorus' will occupy the whole space and is presented with music by Mira Calix.
'Chorus' is an arrangement of eight moving pendulums, suspended from the barrel-vaulted ceiling of the Howard Assembly Room, each one generating individually hypnotic arcs of pure white lights, patterns of movement and strange and beautiful sounds. Together the powerful, swinging pendulums create a dancing performance of light and sound: a theatre without players, a dance without dancers.
Other recent works by UVA include Volume (V&A and the Southbank); Array (Japan); Echo (Tate Modern) and Constellation (Covent Garden).
