Back to What's On

Synopsis

Powerful arrangements of Palestinian and Arabic songs from Palestinian singer Reem Kelani.

Whether backed by a cool jazz piano or left to soar a cappella, Kelani’s voice is a versatile and emotional tool. Here, she sings from her Palestinian album Sprinting Gazelle, including settings of poets such as Mahmoud Darwish and music by the great Egyptian composer Sayyid Darwish. Reem Kelani will be accompanied by the inventive jazz pianist Bruno Heinen.

I attended a gig for Reem Kelani a year and a half ago here in Dubai. She was amazing! With her soulful yet powerful voice, Kelani managed to move the audience. People were singing along, and I even saw elders crying as she sang traditional songs from the Palestinian folklore, that date back to centuries ago. God bless Kelani for her wonderful talents and charisma. Wish her all the best with her future endeavors. Lubna

Her voice combines the poignancy of Billie Holiday with the glass-busting power of Aretha Franklin.
