High drama and virtuosity is promised as we launch our tenth season, as we did our first, with a programme of three spectacular works by Russian composers. Sheherazade, based on the story of The Arabian Nights is one of the great orchestral showpieces of all time, something that could also be said of the Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla. At the heart of the programme we welcome one of this country’s great musicians, Kathryn Stott, to perform Rachmaninov’s final concerto, a work as much influenced by the composer’s time in the United States as by Imperial Russia.
Programme:
Glinka Russlan and Ludmilla: Overture
Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.4
Rimsky-Korsakov Sheherazade
Conductor Pablo González
Before most of our concerts this year we’ll be Talking Music with some of our soloists and conductors, and members of the orchestra. Talking Music starts at 6.40pm. We do hope you'll be able to join us for some lively discussion.
