Opera North offers selected performances with British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation and audio description, check the Opera listings for performance dates.
Audio-described Performances
Audio-described performances include a live description of the visual elements of the production delivered throughout the performance to your seats in the auditorium through a discreet headset. This information is minimal and carefully timed so that it does not detract from the music.
Audio-described performances also include a pre-show touch tour, giving the blind and visually impared access to the stage to touch/get a closer 'look' at the sets and costumes. (Places for the touch tour are free but must be booked in advance, booking details below)
If you book more information about the visual aspects of the show, plus information on how to access the theatre will be sent to you one week before the show on audio-cassette. This information is repeated through the headsets 15 minutes before the start of the performance. Braille and large print cast lists are also available on request.
Seats for those using the audio-description, plus one essential companion, are available at a discounted rate and are reserved in the most appropriate areas of the Stalls.

Selected Opera North performances are British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted. BSL users qualify for a special discount on a seat with the most appropriate view of the signer.
