Tickets on sale early for new acts in the Howard Assembly Room

October is now upon us and to celebrate we are thrilled to announce six new acts appearing in the New Year which have been released for early sale!

Medieval music ensemble Gothic Voices give the first performance of their new programme New Light on An Ancient World (29 Jan) which combines music by Hildegard von Bingen, Machaut and Dufay with contemporary pieces by composer Andrew Keeling.

Senegalese singer Cheikh Lô (30 Jan) is one of the greatest mavericks of West African music. In this incredibly rare UK performance Cheikh Lô performs music from his newly released album Balbalou, fusing his unique mix of funk, mbalax (a form of Senegalese dance music) and other West African styles for an unforgettable evening of luscious soul music.

Globe-trotting and genre-bending Vieux Farka Touré (4 Feb) crafts Malian blues in the rich Songhai tradition of his late father, famed guitarist Ali Farka Touré. In this irresistible Afropop gig, Vieux Farka Touré plays music from his new album Touristes and back catalogue.

New York City based Escher String Quartet (11 Feb) are one of the finest quartets of their generation. Former BBC New Generation Artists, this American string quartet plays Mendelssohn Op. 81 Andante and Scherzo, Bartók String Quartet No. 1 and Beethoven String Quartet Op. 59, No. 1.

Soprano Lucy Crowe (18 Feb) performs four songs by Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten and is joined by pianist Joseph Middleton for Michael Head's wistful and ardent cycle Over the Rim of the Moon. This magnificent evening filled with art-song repertoire is concluded by extraordinary texts of Edith Sitwell, set with virtuosic relish by William Walton.

One of the finest pianists at work today, John Lill (10 Mar) plays one of Beethoven’s best known piano works Piano Sonata No.14 Moonlight and his final sonata, written when he was totally deaf, the astonishingly modern Piano Sonata No. 32 in C Minor Op.111.
