The Howard Assembly Room has been overflowing with sound this week as rehearsals started for Opera North's first ever full Ring Cycle. An augmented orchestra of 90 musicians, complete with musical anvils and Wagner tubas were led by Music Director Richard Farnes in the first rehearsal for the four year project. Wagner's epic cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen begins with Das Rheingold, which will be performed in concert staging in Summer 2011 at Leeds Town Hall (18 June, 1 July, 8 September), Birmingham Symphony Hall (24 June), The Sage Gateshead (26 June) and The Lowry, Salford Quays (10 September).
