Get a taster of our fun-loving and sunny production of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore with this behind the scenes trailer (below).
As well as featuring exclusive rehearsal footage and extracts of this fantasticly uplifting musical score, we spoke to our Adina, Gabriela Iştoc, to discover a little bit about her character — "Adina is the most beautiful, richest person in the village, and apparently all men fall for her!" Gabriela says
We also spoke to our Belcore, Duncan Rock, who explains how his character fits in to the story — "Belcore is everything that Nemorino is not. He is brash, confident, and he sweeps into town on his Vespa with his army buddies and spots Adina as the most beautiful and most eligible young woman in the town."
This production of L'elisir d'amore was originally conceived in 2001 by Daniel Slater and since then, has typically been staged during the winter months as it simply bursts with much needed energy and sunshine.
"We've set it in the late 1950s. It's the dolce vita period, a period of innocence and glamour, and it allows the audience to have a moment (for two hours) of having a shorter, much cheaper than going-on-a-package-deal summer holiday on the Amalfi coast" says Daniel.
L'elisir d'amore opens at Leeds Grand Theatre on Wednesday 17 February, and tours to Newcastle Theatre Royal, Nottingham Theatre Royal, and The Lowry, Salford Quays during March.
