The Opera North Creative Arts Camp follows Government advice for the Protective measures for out-of-school settings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak Guidance for providers of outdoor facilities on the phased return of sport and recreation in England and the Guidance for implementing protective measures in education and childcare settings.

Bubbles and Distancing

  • Camp Participants will be divided into 3 Bubbles of no more than 15 young people. Participants will stay within these Bubbles for the entire week. Each Bubble will be supervised by the same Opera North tutors and pastoral staff each day.
  • Each Bubble will participate in workshops in their own assigned marquee and outdoor area. Wherever possible, the sides of the marquee will be open to allow for maximum ventilation.Drop off and pick up times will be allocated to each group and must be strictly enforced in order to avoid the mixing of Bubbles. Where possible, parents and children are encouraged to walk or to cycle to Herd Farm.
  • Children will be asked, encouraged, and shown how to maintain a minimum of 1 metre social distancing where possible. The Government guidance acknowledges primary aged children cannot always be expected to remain 2 metres apart from one another and staff. Workshops and activities are designed to allow for a minimum of 1 metre distancing and will be conducted outside in open spaces wherever possible.

Hand-washing and sanitisation

  • Specific toilets will be allocated to each Bubble and will be cleaned at regular intervals.
  • Participants and staff will be required to wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitisers at regular intervals, particularly at the beginning and end of each session and rest breaks.
  • In accordance with Government guidance, participants will not be required to wear masks or gloves throughout the week.
  • Participants will be asked to wear new, clean clothes each day and bring lunches wrapped in disposable packaging. Water bottles must be clearly labelled and washed at home at the end of each day.
  • Any percussion instruments, or shared crafts resources will be cleaned and sanitised between use. Equipment will be allocated to each Bubble.
  • Any surfaces within marquees will be cleaned and sanitised at regular intervals each day.
  • Opera North Staff have undertaken Covid-specific First Aid Training.
  • All staff will have their temperature checked each day upon arrival at camp.
