Little Singers Outreach

Our Little Singers Outreach programme provides high quality Early Years music and singing sessions for parents/carers and their children aged 0-4, in communities in Leeds where parents and children have a higher risk of associated personal, social, communication and language delays.

Working in partnership with local children’s centres, sessions aim to introduce music, spoken word and movement at the very earliest stages of a child's development and we work together with professional artists and children's centre staff to monitor how this involvement is beneficial to participants at such a young age.

The project has a lasting impact on the music activity in the Children’s Centres by providing training, resources and support to enable the centre to deliver their own sessions past the life of the project.  It creates new opportunities for many local families, with Opera North seen as a useful resource, creating strong links and establishing a more positive image for music and the arts within these communities.

The project has three stages, each lasting approximately 2 years: Full Delivery Partnership, Transition Partnership & Support Partnership. Children’s centres in Harehills, Middleton and Seacroft are now entering the Transition Stage, where the centres are now delivering their own Little Singers sessions, with guided support from Opera North Education.

From 2015, Little Singers Outreach in Leeds will be delivered in partnership with Parklands, Meadowfields, Temple Newsom & Colton and Chapeltown children’s centres.
