The next taster session and auditions will take place at Newcastle Theatre Royal on Monday 15 January 2018 between 5pm and 6.30pm. To register, please fill in the form below.
When do we meet?
Every Monday evening (term time only) from 5.00pm to 6.30pm.
What performance opportunities are there for members?
Working with the support of a professional opera company, ONCC Newcastle provides boys and girls aged 8-12 with exciting opportunities to further their musical education and talent. Members perform throughout the year both locally and nationally alongside professionals such as the Chorus and Orchestra of Opera North. Entry is by audition, but we are looking for potential and welcome singers of all levels of experience.
How much does it cost?
The membership fee is £50 per term.
We do not wish these fees to present a barrier to any potential members therefore please be aware we offer bursary places to families in challenging circumstances. These bursary places cover the cost of our membership fees and also cover any additional expenses that may be associated with taking part. Please contact Opera North Education for more information and to find out if you are eligible.
How and when can I apply?
We will be welcoming expressions of interest throughout the year. Please complete the online application form below to be added to our waiting list and we will be in touch with further details about the chorus, including taster session and audition dates.
What other parents say
"I can honestly say Emily loves it, it makes her so happy and I can see her confidence growing. We are not a musical family as such, but we all love the concerts and love supporting Emily and ONCC. When Emily first started she was quite young and she went from a child who cried at her audition (first one ever) to singing with Opera North at Turandot this year. Thank you thank you thank you!"
"My son enjoys singing and goes for singing classes. However, he is not very confident on stage. This choir has given him good opportunities to sing on the stage and observe other professionals at close quarters. It has certainly improved his confidence. He also liked the way James is teaching, it holds his interest and he is motivated to perform well. I feel his technique has improved a lot since joining the choir."
"Just a big heartfelt thank you to all the staff and volunteers who support the choir and my son. Ifan feels at such ease with his singing, which is great for an 11 year old boy. He is SO proud to be part of the choir and the opportunities that being a member have enabled him to take part in."
