The Opera North Youth Chorus (ONYC) gives young people aged 14–19 the skills and experience to become well-rounded performers.
As well as developing their singing voices and musicianship skills with dedicated vocal leaders in weekly sessions, members will also have the opportunity to work with professional directors and movement specialists to develop skills in drama and stagecraft.
The Youth Chorus will explore music from a range of genres, performing in exciting concerts locally and nationally throughout the year. The Youth Chorus will also have the chance to take part in a week long residential and work with a team of experienced artists to stage a full production in a professional performance space.
Entry is by audition, but we are looking for potential and welcome singers of all levels of experience. Membership fees do apply to this project, but we are able to offer financial assistance to ensure that costs do not create a barrier to taking part.
Feedback from ONYC Leeds members:
I really loved coming to ONYC, it became a massive part of my life and I have met people there that I will never forget. But more than that, it has been amazing for my vocal skills and performance skills to be coached by very talented people.
Ailsa is immensely enjoying working with the group and feels that it is very important to her development as a musician.
