Masterclasses & Talks

Partner universities are presented with the opportunity to engage with Opera North’s world class resources to provide unique and tailored masterclasses to their students.

Masterclasses can be organised with our music staff from orchestra to chorus as well as with our administrative teams where opportunities to learn and engage with our fundraising, planning and marketing teams are also available. Recent masterclasses include:

New composer’s forum with the University of Manchester, School of Music

Emerging composers were encouraged to write new pieces of music with the opportunity to have these compositions performed and then workshopped by the Orchestra of Opera North, with further assistance from conductor and 2016 Pettman DARE Fellow Davide Levi and Orchestra manager Phil Boughton.

Director and Reader of Composition Kevin Malone said of the opportunity:

It has provided an amazing buzz and deeply musical outcome to our students and staff. Having just finished teaching and meetings, it is such a precious opportunity to put all this preparation from you and your artists into what is after all the reason we do music -- live and in person
