We are delighted to announce our mainstage repertoire for the 2015/16 season, which kicks off in dazzling style with a brand new production of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, directed by Jo Davies.

Staging Porter’s witty, jazz-inflected reworking of The Taming of the Shrew, with classic numbers including ‘Too Darn Hot’ and ‘Always True to You in My Fashion,’ is the realisation of a longstanding ambition of Opera North’s, in a co-production with Welsh National Opera.

Giordano’s verismo masterpiece Andrea Chénier comes to Opera North for the first time, in a new production by Annabel Arden exploring the chaos of revolution and the role of the artist in a time of political turmoil. The cast includes Rafael Rojas as Chénier, Robert Hayward as Gérard and Annemarie Kremer as Maddelena, returning to Opera North following memorable performances in the title role of Norma (2012).

Much-loved productions of The Barber of Seville, Cosi fan tutte and L'elisir d'amore, return to Opera North, bringing together the ensemble talents of a new generation of British and international singers, including Nicholas Watts, Gavan Ring, Helen Sherman, Ellie Laugharne, Gabriela Iştoc, Jung Soo Yun, Katie Bray and Duncan Rock.

Tom Cairns’ intense and powerful production of Jenůfa stars Swedish soprano Ylva Kihlberg in the title role and Susan Bickley as the Kostelnička, conducted by the young Serbian conductor Aleksandar Marković.

A collaboration between Aldeburgh Music, The Royal Opera and Opera North, new chamber opera, Pleasure, receives its world premiere in April 2016, featuring Lesley Garrett in the role of Val.

A major new co-production with West Yorkshire Playhouse, Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, will be directed by James Brining in June 2016.

Finally, an extraordinary journey comes full circle in the Summer of 2016. We celebrate the end of music director Richard Farnes’ 12 year tenure with performances of Der Ring des Nibelungen where the dramatic power of the music takes centre stage in a Ring like no other.

Dear Gwen, Many thanks for your question. Most of our work does tour to Nottingham and we are delighted that next season we will be touring to the Theatre Royal in November with Kiss Me, Kate, The Barber of Seville and Jenufa, and in March 2016 with Andrea Chenier, Cosi fan tutte and L'elisir d'amore. Tickets for our Autumn and Winter seasons in Nottingham will be on sale in July. We are also extremely pleased to be bringing our dramatic concert staging of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman to the Royal Concert Hall on 11 July 2015, followed by a full Ring cycle 6-11 June 2016. We very much hope to see you at some of these performances over the next year! If you would like any further information you can also contact us by emailing info@operanorth.co.uk or by phone 0113 243 9999 Kind regards, Opera North

I always look forward to seeing the names of your productions but as I live near Nottingham and would go to the Theatre Royal there are always very few visits. I know you usually make a visit in February but can we have more?
