Opera North's witty production of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate saw off stiff competition last night to win Manchester's CityLife Award for 'Best Musical'.
The shortlist for the award was drawn up by a team of reviewers from the Manchester Evening News who scoured email, online coverage and social media channels to decide which productions deserved to make the final list of nominations.
For the first time this year, these were then put to the public vote to ensure that the winner truly reflected the performance which impressed audiences the most. In the end, thousands voted for their favourite show, with Kiss Me, Kate securing an impressive 45 percent share of the vote to take the coveted title, ‘CityLife Awards 2015 Best Musical’.
The Marriage of Figaro, which was also directed by Jo Davies, was short-listed in the awards’ Classical category.
