On Friday 20 May, Opera North hosted its first live bloggers event at The Lowry, Salford Quays. A selection of Manchester based bloggers were invited to tweet, blog and audio boo their experience of a 'night at the opera' from their seats. They had an exclusive peak behind the scenes, met cast members Claire Wild and Keel Watson and were invited to watch the performance with the challenge from Opera North to 'be indifferent' about Carmen during the Manchester part of the Company's tour.
The blogs ranged from arts and culture to fashion and food, each with a strong online presence and wide reach on the urban city 'scene'. For the majority this was their first opera.

'Would I like to go along and see their controversial production of Carmen at The Lowry? Well, yes, obviously...And would I like special permission to tweet my opinions of the production throughout? Well, um, *guilty face* YES...but is that allowed?' Read more
'I cried, my chest ached, my hands stung from excessive clapping, and I came home with the need to smash plates and tear my stockings off and paint the walls of my flat red.' Read more
'The male chorus members were at their swaggering and bullying best as local home boy law enforcement officers. The whole first act simply sweated and oozed with heat, sex and restrained passion bubbling below the surface and then bursting out!' Read more
'My first opera experience was such a treat. I think it helped to ease myself in with some well known tunes (which, yes, at time of writing are still very much lodged in my brain) to make it much less intimidating... I'm off to eye up what operas are coming to town in the near future, I'm not leaving it so long before my second opera outing.' Read more
