Opera North’s general director, Dr Richard Mantle has today been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in recognition of his services to music.

Clive Lloyd, vice chairman of Opera North, said: "On behalf of everyone at Opera North, I am delighted that our General Director, Richard Mantle, has received an OBE for his services to music. This honour serves as a wonderful recognition of his terrific leadership over the past nineteen years, which has ensured that Opera North can continue to be an ambitious and innovative national company. How apt that we can celebrate this momentous occasion with the opening night of Siegfried at Leeds Town Hall this evening."
