We’re delighted to announce that Opera North productions have received three nominations in the 2016 WhatsOnStage Opera Poll.

Director Jo Davies is shortlisted for Best New Opera Production for The Marriage of Figaro, hailed in the Daily Telegraph on its January 2015 premiere as ‘a Figaro of exceptional ensemble, rich in charm, humour and vitality: beautifully sung, sensitively staged.’ Jo's recent triumphs at Opera North include Ruddigore and Carousel, and this Autumn's spectacular hit musical Kiss Me, Kate.

Another acclaimed production from our Autumn season, Janáček’s heart-wrenching Jenůfa is the subject of two nominations: Best Opera Revival and Outstanding Contribution to the UK Operatic Scene (Susan Bickley). Having created the production in 1995, Tom Cairns returned twenty years on to direct, and Conductor Aleksandar Marković made his opera debut.

Nominated for Outstanding Contribution to the UK Operatic Scene for ‘a trio of unforgettable performances, chiefly in Jenůfa’, Susan Bickley is one of the most accomplished mezzo-sopranos of her generation.

She has already received the highest recognition for live classical music in the UK, the prestigious Singer Award at the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards. Susan returns in 2016 to sing Fricke and Waltraute in Opera North’s epic performance of The Ring Cycle.

Voting will end at 11.59pm on 31 December 2015. The winners will be announced on 4 January 2016. Cast your vote now!
