Term 1: 4 Nov–9 Dec

We are proud to announce the launch of a new online home music programme for children aged 7-11; delivered by specialist Opera North tutors.

This programme, which follows the arc of the national curriculum, will enable a holistic understanding of music and include the opportunity to learn an instrument.

Drawing on experience and teaching resources from Opera North’s award-winning In Harmony programme, the Home Music Programme will allow young people to learn from experienced Opera North tutors as well as other young people across the North of England. This programme is suitable for students who have little or no previous musical training whilst being sensitive to any existing musical knowledge and understanding. As well as supporting young people to work remotely, the programme will include opportunities for live group coaching sessions in Leeds with tutors and other students.

The curriculum will begin with musicianship and music literacy training, exposing students to the foundations of reading, playing and listening to music. Alongside this, students will be introduced to the various instruments they can chose to learn, and staff will be on hand to recommend the most suitable instrument. Each week participants will have two touch points with tutors in addition to self-directed learning in preparation for live digital calls with tutors.
