Light Night: Wave
This event has passed.
Returning to Light Night after three years away, the Howard Assembly Room becomes home to an immersive environment by artist Akeelah Bertram, with live music from a quartet led by cellist Clare O’Connell.
Engaging with themes of nature and the environment ahead of the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference, Bertram’s installation reacts to the musicians in real time, with pools of water refracting sound-responsive visual displays around the space.
Clare O’Connell is joined by Kaviraj Singh (santoor and voice), Ilona Suomalainen (accordion) and singer/songwriter/composer Nicki Wells in a continuous exchange of folk, traditional music and improvisation from around the world, coalescing around the ancient Irish sean-nós tune Seachrán Sí.
Always a favourite on the Light Night trail, Opera North promises another transportive and mesmerising meeting of light and music.
