In early 2020, Opera North and Northern Heartlands joined forces to put on an ambitious community opera, Song of Our Heartland, written over the course of the previous year by composer Will Todd and librettist Emma Jenkins in collaboration with local residents from County Durham. The opera was due to be performed in May 2020, but then lockdown happened… What became of the opera?
