She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not

Songs of love with the Chorus of Opera North

This event has passed.

Join the Chorus of Opera North for an evening of sensual, seductive and romantic song accompanied by a piano duet.

With poetry steeped in middle and far eastern influences set to incredible scores, and love songs straight out of the great American songbook, this is a chance to see the ‘superb’ (The Times) Chorus perform in an intimate setting.

From Palestrina’s strikingly sensuous motets and Brahms’ romantic waltzes, to the exuberant and lively jazz standards of Fats Waller, this is a wonderful evening of song that is not to be missed.

Did you know...

  • Florent Schmitt‘s ‘Chansons à quatre voix’ are settings of the composer’s own words, the poetry of Alfred de Musset and ancient Arabic verse. Although Schmitt has enjoyed something of a revival in recent years, no recordings of the work are available, and performances are rare.
  • ‘Songs of Courtship’ by John Bevan Baker are imaginative settings of ancient Chinese poetry written in 1992 for a choir on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands, where the composer was living at the time.
