Opera North has won the ‘Best Opera’ Award at the Manchester Theatre Awards for its production of Don Giovanni. The result was announced a star-studded ceremony at the Manchester Opera House.

Mozart’s Don Giovanni premiered at Leeds Grand in September 2012 starring William Dazeley as the composer’s operatic anti-hero. Dazeley’s stunning portrayal of the lavish, uncaring villain was accompanied by a brilliant cast including Alastair Miles as Leporello, Meeta Raval as Donna Anna, Elizabeth Atherton as Donna Elvira, Christopher Turner as Don Ottavio, Claire Wild as Zerlina, Oliver Dunn as Masetto, Michael Druiett as Il Commendatore, and internationally renowned Tobias Ringborg conducted.

The Manchester Theatre Awards aim to recognise productions that have appeared in the North West. The productions range from musicals to drama and dance, and span from major theatres to pub venues.

Nine independent regional critics lead the panel of judges to decide the winners over 19 categories.
