At Opera North we are immensely proud of our Orchestra and Chorus, and they occupy a unique and important position in the UK’s artistic landscape. At a time when other UK opera companies have been compelled to reduce these vital artistic forces, we are committed to large full-time permanent ensembles. Amplify, Opera North’s dedicated programme of philanthropic support, is crucial in ensuring our singers and musicians can continue to create world-class music and opera.
The Orchestra plays a unique, dual role in both the opera house and concert hall, performing a vibrant opera programme, alongside an extensive diary of other musical engagements, including the annual Kirklees Concert Season. Our musicians also deliver solo and chamber performances in Leeds and further afield, whilst our extraordinary Chorus perform and cover principal roles on-stage throughout the opera season.
At Opera North, we believe that talent flourishes in a creative environment that is supportive, stimulative, and inspiring. The Howard Opera Centre is home to coaching, and top-notch rehearsal and production facilities, dedicated to enabling all our artists to produce music and opera of the highest quality. We are committed to celebrating excellence, from the aspiring performers in our Youth Company, through to the talented musicians of the orchestra and chorus that we draw from across the globe.
“I have chosen to give directly to the Opera North orchestra in memory of my parents because a permanent orchestra is integral to the success of an opera company. The orchestra of Opera North is special because it enriches the musical life of the region in so many ways: symphony concerts, chamber music, youth orchestra and music in schools.”
