Download programme

Anomaly is my way of shining a light on Indian classical music, on the music that comes naturally to me as a product of my surroundings as well as my training”.

Following his work as composer, co-music director and soloist on Opera North and SAA-uk’s groundbreaking opera Orpheus, Jasdeep will be joined by a large ensemble of collaborators from across the Indian classical, western classical, and jazz traditions to showcase his performance, composition, and collaborative prowess on the concert stage.

Written and recorded under the mentorship of Nitin Sawhney, the album’s twelve tracks range from inspired sitar solos to cinematic orchestral excursions. It’s innovative music delivered with contemporary flair, but always rooted in the ancient repertoire of raags, the frameworks used in the improvised performance of Indian classical music.

Jasdeep’s band for this date includes Kaviraj Singh (santoor) and Kirpal Panesar (esraj) from the Orpheus ensemble.

Presented by South Asian Arts UK in association with Concerted Artists and Realworld Records.
