Ana Carla Maza

Wednesday 17 April 2024

This event has passed.

Cuban composer, cellist and singer, Ana Carla Maza took her first musical steps growing up in the ever-reverberating ‘rumbero’ district of Guanabacaoa, Havana.

Age 5, her mother (director of a children’s choir) and father (jazz composer and instrumentalist) introduced her to the piano and at 8 years old she plucked her first cello string, the instrument she would call her own.

Following her second album, Bahia, in 2022 Ana Carla performed over 150 concerts. Caribe is her third album release in 3 years and makes a freedom-fulfilling reconnection to her Havana upbringing and Latin American roots. Conceived, written and recorded ‘on the road’ – on a plane trip to Mexico, by the shores of Lake Annecy, from a castle in Portugal – she brings together a tremendous set of musicians to reflect this fresh chapter in her musical story.

“A gorgeous multilingual voyage through Cuban, Brazilian, Argentine and Peruvian songcraft.”
– The Guardian
