Celebrated Australian/Chinese cellist, Li-Wei Qin, a former Australian Young Musician of the Year and BBC New Generation Artist, makes a rare visit to the UK as part of his 50th birthday celebrations.

Li-Wei rose to fame after winning the Gold Medal of the Royal Overseas League in London, the Naumberg Competition in New York and the silver medal in the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Now the foremost cellist in Australasia, Li-Wei performs globally with orchestras such as the London Symphony, Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Melbourne Symphony and many more.

This is rare opportunity to hear this globally acclaimed cellist perform in an intimate setting with long-time duo partner and acclaimed pianist in his own right, Jeremy Young.

The duo have a strong connection to the North West, Li-Wei having studied with Ralph Kirschbaum at the Royal Northern College of Music. Jeremy also studied at the RNCM and is now a Senior Professor of Piano and Head of Piano Chamber Music there.

The programme reflects their experience as global artists, and includes Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No 5 in D major Op 102, which the duo performed in their Lincoln Center debut more than 25 years ago.
