Wild Style Screening (4K)

and Q&A with Grandmaster Caz

Sunday 5 April 2026

Film screening

This event has passed.

A screening of the first true hip-hop movie in a newly restored 4K edition. Followed by Q&A with Grandmaster Caz.

Released in 1983, Wild Style captures hip-hop at its birth. It’s like a time capsule from the Bronx and downtown New York, showing the four pillars of hip-hop – graffiti, MC-ing, DJ-ing and breakdancing – raw and unfiltered, performed by real people. In 4K, the subway cars, the walls, the fashion, the expressions, all come back to life with a clarity that makes the era feel immediate rather than distant.

A Q&A with Grandmaster Caz transforms the event from a retrospective into a living conversation. A founding member of the Cold Crush Brothers and one of the most influential MCs in hip-hop history, Caz is not a commentator looking back from the outside, he’s part of the story itself. His voice bridges the gap between what’s on screen and what was happening off camera: the battles, the politics, the creativity, and the survival that shaped early hip-hop culture.

Leeds‑based NikNak will act as compere and interview Grandmaster Caz. A musical polymath, she blends turntablism, immersive composition and improvisation, earning early acclaim for her debut Bashi and later recognition for her 2024 album Ireti on Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Records, which Mixmag and Bandcamp named among the year’s best releases.

If you know hip-hop, it’s a chance to deepen your understanding beyond the myths and simplified origin stories. If you’re new to hip-hop, it’s a chance to see inside this community-driven movement born from necessity, ingenuity and expression.
