Brudenell Presents: Margaret Glaspy
Book NowA distinct, clear – eyed voice in contemporary songwriting, bringing an intense and cathartic blend of folk-indie-rock to Leeds.
Margaret Glaspy’s sound is anchored in a raw, stripped – back style that balances intimate folk roots with a gritty indie – rock edge. Her music centres on an elegant, articulate guitar technique and disarmingly direct vocals, favouring immediate live chemistry and a precise emotional truth over heavy production.
Raised in Northern California and now based in New York, Glaspy first earned widespread critical acclaim for her self – produced 2016 debut Emotions and Math. She has spent the decade since establishing a reputation for formidable, uncompromising musicianship across a series of celebrated releases, including Devotion and Echo the Diamond.
This performance showcases material from her latest work, I Am Both – an album recorded live in New York and produced by the three – time Grammy – winner Joe Henry, known for his work with luminaries like Aimee Mann and Joan Baez. The new songs expand her musical texture, weaving soulful harmonica into finely detailed fictional vignettes and empathetic observations of the wider world.
