Christopher Maltman and Joseph Middleton – Evening Recital

One of the most sought-after dramatic baritones of today, Grammy Award winner Christopher Maltman has appeared to wide acclaim on musical stages across the world.

Following two recent and most-anticipated opera role débuts in Der fliegende Holländer with the Bayerische Staatsoper and in Siegfried at the Royal Ballet & Opera, we welcome his return to Leeds in a performance of Schubert’s masterwork, Winterreise.

Schubert’s iconic and deeply psychological song cycle setting the dark and immersive poems of Wilhelm Müller depicts a rejected lover’s bleak, solitary journey through a winter landscape in a stark, though richly evocative soundscape.

In this evening’s recital, together with pianist Joseph Middleton (“the perfect accompanist”, The Times), Maltman brings Schubert’s defining song cycle to life with his characteristic dramatic instinct and sensitivity.
