Audio-described performances include a live description of the visual elements of the production delivered through a discreet headset. This information is minimal and carefully timed so that it does not detract from the music.
Opera North’s audio-described performances include a pre-show touch tour where blind and visually impaired audience members are allowed access to the stage to touch/get a closer look at the sets and costumes. Places for the touch tour are free but must be booked in advance.
In addition to this, an introduction to the visual aspects of the production is sent to all bookers one week prior to the show as an MP3 or CD (please specify at the time of booking). This information is repeated through the headsets 15 minutes before the start of the performance. Large print casts lists are also available on the night, and in braille on request in advance.
Tickets are now on sale for our 2019/20 season. Seats for those using the audio-description plus one essential companion are available at a discounted rate and are reserved in the most appropriate areas. For more information, to discuss your requirements, or to book, please call the Box Office (0113 2233600), or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
