Follow a tiny snail and great big humpback whale on a musical journey around the world and take part in our drawing challenge!

The Snail and the Whale

Have you ever read the wonderful book The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson?

A tiny snail longs to sail around the world and embarks on a journey hitching a lift on the tail of a whale. Together, they embark on an amazing journey, past icebergs, volcanos and beaches…

You can watch the animated movie based on Alex Scheffler’s beautiful illustrations on BBC iPlayer.

A Musical Journey Around the World

In our story, the snail and the whale travel around the world visiting many exciting places. Let’s see where they travel to! Listen to music from all these places – close your eyes and imagine what they might be like…

Can you hear the cold wind blowing on the ice sheet and the penguins gathering to stay warm? Do you picture the heavy rain, lightnings and thunders travelling through the thunderstorm? Can you imagine yourself under a palm tree enjoying the sun and eating an ice-cream?

They go to the Arctic
They travel through a thunderstorm
They visit a beach

Which piece of music did you enjoy the most? The music from the Arctic, the thunderstorm or the beach?

Drawing Challenge

Listen to your favourite piece again and draw the place you imagine when you close your eyes!
