London-based singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Alice Zawadzki’s background takes in classical violin, gospel, jazz and folk.
My Boy of the Birds, her composition for Opera North’s series of sound walks during lockdown, is illuminated by the richness of those influences. It was written for “that very special time of day that’s neither night-time or daytime”, says Alice: “that strange, luminous place where the birds are singing and we’re on the precipice of something new”.
Joined by musicians from the Orchestra of Opera North, she performs a special arrangement of the piece as part of this programme.
