Louise Alder, Mauro Peter, Joseph Middleton

Friday 7 February 2025

This event has passed.

Wolf’s evocative settings of Tuscan and Venetian lyrics, brought to life here by three outstanding Lieder interpreters, move from delight in small things to a sense of wonder at the vastness of creation and the all-consuming power of love. All of life is on display.

These songs are by turns witty, pithy, outrageously salacious, and heartfelt. The concert, in association with Leeds Lieder, is the first of a European Tour that will see the trio perform at Wigmore Hall, Vienna Musikverein, Frankfurt Opera, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Barcelona and Cambridge.

Louise Alder

One of the most in demand artists today, British soprano Louise Alder has firmly established herself as “an instinctive singing actress” (The Arts Desk) and a “terrific talent, combining a big lustrous voice with flawless intonation and a keen intelligence” (The Times). A hugely versatile artist, she is equally at home on the world’s most important opera, concert and recital venues such as Royal Opera House, Wiener Staatsoper, Glyndebourne Festival, Bayerische Staatsoper, Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall.

Mauro Peter

One of the most sought-after classical tenors of his generation, Mauro Peter is particularly devoted to the Lied repertoire, having appeared in varied recital programmes at the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus, the Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Verbier Festival, Lucerne Festival, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Salzburg Festival.

Joseph Middleton

Pianist Joseph Middleton specialises in the art of song accompaniment and chamber music and has been internationally acclaimed as “one of the world’s greatest specialists in lied accompaniment” (Le Choix Musical). A prizewinner at the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards, this season’s engagements take him to the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Paris Louvre, Munich Prinzregententheatre, Aix-en-Provence, Berlin BoulezSaal and Philharmonie, and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg.
