La petite bohème

Wednesday 27 October 2021

This event has passed.

Part of Open Day: Backstage Pass, a one-off chance to experience what really goes on behind the scenes.

Visit the newly reopened Howard Assembly Room and grab a pair of our special headphones for an immersive screening of this 20-minute animated re-imagining of Puccini’s best-loved opera La bohème.

Once madly in love, Rodolfo and Mimì have fallen on hard times – Mimì’s illness is getting worse and Rodolfo is driven to jealousy and rage. In this famously heart-breaking act, the couple reaches breaking point. Can their love survive the harsh winter?

Matthew Robins’ unique animated retelling of Act III of La bohème captures the emotion and humour of Puccini’s classic opera. Featuring a newly-recorded soundtrack by the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North and four soloists, this animation will delight both lovers of La bohème and opera newcomers in equal measure.

Sanitised headphones will be provided for this event. A limited number of receiver packs with 3.5mm headphone sockets are also available on request if you would prefer to use your own headphones.

Tickets will be available on the day but booking is advised.
