Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur

David Pipe performs Messiaen’s evocative nine-movement cycle for Christmas.

Composed in 1935 when Messiaen was in his mid-twenties, this iconic work includes musical depictions of the shepherds, angels and wise men, before concluding with the dramatic ‘Dieu parmi nous’ toccata.
