Orchestra of Opera North: The Mystery of Fingal's Cave

This event has passed.

Programme

Mendelssohn Hebrides Overture
Ellin Gresley
Brahms Symphony No. 2

Opera North’s Principal Guest Conductor Antony Hermus leads the world premiere of Gresley, a Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra written by acclaimed British composer Benjamin Ellin for Opera North’s Christian Jones.

Mendelssohn’s thrilling sound-painting of a stormy Fingal’s Cave opens the concert; and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 touches down on the calmer waters of Lake Wörth, southern Austria, where the composer spent happy summers holidaying and working.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate as a soloist with the brilliant Orchestra of Opera North. Bringing a new concerto to the concert platform for my ‘endangered species’ instrument marks the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition” — Christian Jones

Gresley is generously supported by RVW Trust
