Didgeridoo meets String Quartet

This event has passed.

A remarkable musical collaboration bringing together Australian didgeridoo virtuoso William Barton and the internationally acclaimed Brodsky Quartet.

William Barton and the Brodsky Quartet present a distinctive programme that bridges classical music traditions with contemporary Australian composition. The concert brings together works by composers including Peter Sculthorpe, Salina Fisher, Janáček, and Stravinsky, alongside Andrew Ford’s quartet written during the 2019 Australian bushfires.

William Barton, a respected didgeridoo player, brings a unique musical voice to the performance. His approach to the instrument goes beyond traditional boundaries, creating soundscapes that have been recognised by international orchestras, including performances with the Berlin Philharmonic.

The Brodsky Quartet, with over five decades of musical experience, have a rich history of collaborative performances. Their artistic journey has seen them work with artists including Elvis Costello, Björk, and Dawn Upshaw, while maintaining a deep interest in composers like Sculthorpe. Their connection with William Barton has developed through several joint projects, including a tour of New Zealand.

The Brodsky Quartet are regulars at the Howard Assembly Room, having last appeared in 2024 performing all of Shostakovich’s string quartets in just one weekend.

In partnership with Cambridge Creative Management.
