In Harmony: More than Music

We believe that young people from all backgrounds deserve the chance to experience the incredible impact of music.

Launched in 2013, In Harmony now engages over 3,200 children and young people in full-time education every week, delivering an inclusive programme of music education and performance opportunities at four infant schools, eight primary schools, and one secondary school. Of these students, approximately 42% are in receipt of free school meals and 22% have special educational needs. In Harmony is more than a music programme, it supports the development of a strong sense of community and opens singing and instrumental playing to thousands of children who might not otherwise have had the opportunity to engage with music in this way.

Regular group music making activity is embedded in the school curriculum with measurable skills developed including listening, speaking, teamwork, and resilience.

To ensure sustainability and progression opportunities, enthusiastic young instrumentalists can also join Opera North’s Young Musicians Studio, which takes place on Saturdays and builds on their curriculum learning.

We also now offer a four-year early years and key stage 1 musicianship training package for teachers to ensure that music provision can continue to be nurtured within schools, even when we are not there.
In these challenging times for the arts across the UK, we are determined to continue to deliver and grow this transformational programme for schools. Support In Harmony this festive season and help us give more young people the gift of music.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT THIS CHRISTMAS

Thanks to the generosity of our In Harmony Champions, all donations up to £10,000 will be matched pound for pound meaning your support can go even further!

£3,740 raised towards our target of £10,000… we are off to a great start, keep it going!

£20 could provide a new string for an In Harmony string instrument or a new valve for an In Harmony brass instrument.

£50 could provide a new set of sheet music for the In Harmony choir or support new repertoire for In Harmony instrumental students.

£100£250 could support the cost of an In Harmony instrument for a student.

£300 could provide a school with a box of musicianship resources, integral to the delivery of the early years and key stage 1 musicianship teacher training package.

£500 could support the cost of a coach for a school to attend one of our In Harmony Performance Days.

£1000 could provide a bursary for an In Harmony student to progress to our Young Musicians Studio.
