Too often, people miss out on musical experiences due to a lack of accessibility awareness. Despite the observable benefits of live music for people with additional sensory needs, such as adults with dementia and people with learning disabilities, these groups are rarely given the opportunity to engage with music in a way that meets their needs.

We currently run three Melodic Memories sessions a season, with around 20 attendees at each one, and the content of the workshops is always tailored to Opera North’s current productions to give participants the chance to experience the magic of the music close up.

This Spring, we ask you to help us expand the scope of this vital programme of work, supporting us to give everyone the opportunity to experience transformative live music.

“It’s the best dementia group we come to. Everything about it is wonderful. We particularly enjoy the singing – and the biscuits! We can’t wait for more.” – Melodic Memories participant

Each season, we also have a relaxed performance of one of our productions, our most recent being a performance of The Marriage of Figaro on the 18 February. One of the attendees gave this feedback on the performance…

‘We loved the welcoming atmosphere that your staff and performers created for the relaxed performance.’ – Relaxed performance audience member
