Covid safety measures – Whistle Stop Opera: Hansel and Gretel

We are delighted to be able to welcome audiences again for performances of Whistle Stop Opera: Hansel and Gretel in August and September 2020.

In accordance with government guidelines which allow outdoor performances to take place from 11 July 2020, Whistle Stop Opera: Hansel and Gretel will be performed outdoors, under conditions which will enable social distancing to be maintained at all times. This document aims to provide audiences with an understanding of what measures have been put in place to keep them safe and will be updated as required.

Information last updated: 21 August 2020.

Covid safe measures include the following:

  • All performances will be held outside with performers and audiences socially-distanced. In accordance with guidelines covering singing as an activity, 3m distance will be maintained between singers at all times, and also between the performers and audience.
  • Tickets are strictly limited to a level which will allow social distancing both in the ‘auditorium’ area and at all points around the site, including for access.
  • Areas for up to a maximum of 5 people will be available to book, each area will be clearly marked out and allocated, with 2m minimum clearance between each area. Audience members must only book as a group if they belong to the same household or bubble.
  • If the space available at a venue requires it, a one-way system will be set up for audience members to enter and leave the auditorium space, and appropriate signage and staffing will be provided.
  • Hand sanitising stations will be available on entry and all audience members encouraged to use them.
  • Wherever possible tickets will be sold online and e-tickets will be used. Tickets will be checked on entry to the auditorium area without contact. Please note, tickets MUST be purchased in advance, there will be no ticket sales on the door to reduce contact points. When booking, we will ask for your contact details including your mobile number which may be passed on to the test and trace scheme if required.
  • Sufficient time will be allowed between performances to prevent arriving and departing audience members from creating congestion around the site or with local public transport.
  • All seating and any other surfaces will be cleaned and sanitised between performances.
  • Audience members will not be required to wear face coverings outdoors, but are of course welcome to do so.
  • If you have any symptoms of Covid-19, or have been in direct contact with a diagnosed individual in the last 14 days and have been advised to self-isolate, you must not attend the event. If you are unable to attend due to illness, please contact us via boxoffice@operanorth.co.uk to arrange a ticket transfer or refund. Tickets can only be refunded if a performance has sold out.
  • If it is raining on the day of the performance, we cannot offer you a refund. Performances will still go ahead unless it is unsafe to do so.
  • If a performance is cancelled for any reason we will contact you to let you know and arrange a refund of your ticket money.
