June Spoon and Phillip Fork

Introducing the hosts of the daytime cookery show Pass the Spoon: June Spoon and Phillip Fork.

A seasoned television professional and cook extraordinaire, June Spoon certainly knows her onions. Having said that, she’s also slightly unhinged, adding a large pinch of madness to the proceedings as everything spirals out of control.

Her sidekick is the hapless Phillip Fork. Not likely to win an IQ contest any time soon, he has a slightly fractious relationship with June but would undoubtedly be lost without her.

Mr Egg and the Banana

Fed up of being dropped and broken, Mr Egg has become increasingly depressed with life and has taken to drink. While prone to moments of great joy, these are few and far between with the inevitable swing to gloom sure to follow. How will he fare as the waiter to the insatiable diner, Mr Granules?

Conversely, the Banana is the voice of reason. While the others are prone to irrational outbursts, he strives to keep everyone on the straight and narrow, despite the abuse aimed in his direction. Like Mr Egg, he’s a potential ingredient but, unlike his thin-shelled companion, he’s very pragmatic about the situation in which he finds himself.

Mr Granules and the Butcher

Who is this mystery diner that everyone’s attempting to please? Why does he make everybody feel so nervous? We don’t actually find out until near the end of the show when Mr Granules finally puts in an appearance. Gigantic in both size and appetite, he’d put a teenager to shame with his grunts and groans – and his behaviour at table is certainly less than ideal …

Talking of big things, meet the Butcher with his oversized voice! As you would expect from someone in his line of work, he sells a fine selection of meat products, but all is not quite as it seems. The butcher has an undeniably ecclesiastical quality about him, which leads everyone to regard his shop as a place of worship.

The Vegetables

Beware any vegetarians and vegans, this is not a show where the Vegetables have a great time or indeed the best of outcomes. Still, you do get to enjoy watching a Turnip, Carrot and Potato being put through their paces to assess their suitability as soup ingredients.

Unlike the life-size characters, these soil-sprinkled roots are represented by puppets, adding to their undeniable charm. They also get to live in a special veg box which at least gives them a place to call their own.

See how they all turned out ...
