Included below are copies of Opera North Education’s resource packs for previous Schools’ Matinee performances. Please feel free to utilise these resources to assist any learning around these specific operas or opera in general.

 

Resource Pack: The Cunning Little Vixen

Suitable for KS2-4

This learning pack offers teachers and pupils in KS2, 3 and 4 an introduction to Opera North’s production of The Cunning Little Vixen by the Czech composer Leoš Janáček.

The pack includes information about the composer, the world of opera, and an introduction to the opera The Cunning Little Vixen including: the plot synopsis, an introduction to the characters and key themes. Linking to music and drama, but also history and science curriculum, you will find interesting facts and activity ideas for use in the classroom. Feel free to get creative and adapt these activities to suit the needs of your class!

Resource Pack: The Magic Flute

Suitable for KS2-4

This learning pack offers teachers and pupils in KS2, 3 and 4 an introduction to Opera North’s production of The Magic Flute by the German composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The pack includes information about the composer and librettist, the world of opera, and an introduction to the opera The Magic Flute, including: the plot synopsis, an introduction to the characters and key themes. Interesting facts and activity ideas are dispersed throughout this pack for use in the classroom which can inspire further ideas for discussion. Feel free to get creative and adapt these activities to suit the needs of your class!

Resource Pack: The Child and the Magic Spells

Suitable for KS2-4

This learning pack is intended to offer teachers and pupils in KS2, 3 and 4 an introduction to Opera North’s production of the opera L’enfant et les sortilèges by the French composer Maurice Ravel.

The pack includes information about the composer and librettist, the world of opera, and an introduction to the opera L’enfant et les sortilèges, including: the plot synopsis, an introduction to the characters, key themes, words and French vocabulary. Interesting facts and activity ideas (both in English and French) are dispersed throughout the pack for use in the classroom.

Resource Pack: Hansel and Gretel

Suitable for KS2-4

This learning pack is intended to offer teachers and pupils in KS2, 3 and 4 an introduction to Opera North’s production of the opera Hansel and Gretel by the German composer Engelbert Humperdinck.

The pack includes information about the composer and librettist, the world of opera, and an introduction to the opera Hansel and Gretel, including: the plot synopsis, an introduction to the characters, key themes, interesting facts and activity ideas are dispersed throughout the pack to inspire further ideas for discussion.
