Angela Hewitt

This event has passed.

Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt’s performances of the music of J.S. Bach have established her as one of the composer’s foremost interpreters of our time.

Her award-winning cycle of all the major keyboard works has been described as “one of the record glories of our age” (The Sunday Times). On her ‘Bach World Tour’ in 2008-2009, she performed The Well-Tempered Clavier in 21 countries and in 2016 she began her formidable ‘Bach Odyssey’, a series of 12 marathon recitals across the globe.

Her programme for the Howard Assembly Room features selections from the second book of The Well-Tempered Clavier and the bright, sunny atmospheres of the English Suite No 4 in F major. Eugen d’Albert’s transcription of one of Bach’s greatest organ works, the Passacaglia in C minor closes the concert.

Selections by the harpsichord master François Couperin ‘le Grand’– recorded by Hewitt for a revelatory Hyperion release – and three Scarlatti sonatas complete a rich tapestry of baroque keyboard music.

“This is no mechanical journey through the cycle of keys. This is life itself’.
